Mrs. Karen Pennington
The 2020-2021 school year - We will have to be patient with each other as we continue to deal with Covid-19 and Distance Learning, but I'm looking forward to an exciting year! Fourth grade will be using Google Classroom to give our lessons. The fall distance learning will be very different from the spring. We will have daily lessons and live teacher lessons for each subject throughout the day. Have a timer ready for the first day of school, or watch the clock carefully. If students are not able to join the live lessons, teachers will be recording them and posting it for students to view later in the day. (Parents & students, make sure to use good etiquette when on Zoom.) Assignments will need to be completed daily for attendance purposes. We are still getting more direction on everything. Sometimes things are changing from day to day. We will be using Zoom, NEISD Launchpad, Google Docs, Google Jamboard, EdPuzzle, and many other digital tools.
The week before school & Meet the Teacher 2020 - You should receive an email from me around noon on Thursday. It will include important info to review before joining a Meet the Teacher Zoom. There will be 3 Meet-the-Teacher Zoom times on Thursday, August 13th to choose from: 9:00 a.m., 12:30 p.m., & 3:30 p.m. If you have any specific questions or concerns, please email me. I look forward to a year filled with plenty of opportunities for growth! We'll definitely be taking this journey together!
Here's a little about Mrs. Pennington:
Teaching Experience - I have 27 years of teaching experience. This will be my 12th year with NEISD. I taught 16 years in Corpus Christi, TX. I have taught 9 years in 1st grade, 2 years in 2nd grade, 1 year in 3rd grade, 6 years in 4th grade, and 9 years in 5th grade. I have been at Cibolo Green Elementary since it opened. I love the community and the students!
Education and why I became a teacher - I received a BBA in Finance at Texas A&M University in College Station. After working a few years, I decided that finance was not my true calling. I have always felt I had a gift and desire for teaching others and truly enjoy seeing people learn. I attended Texas A&M University in Corpus Christi to become a certified Elementary Teacher with an emphasis in math. I enjoy teaching all subjects.
Family - My family and I moved here in 2009. My husband has recently retired. My daughter, Donna, graduated from Johnson High School. Donna was involved mostly in dance, theater, and Young Life. She just graduated from Texas A&M University with a degree in Human Resources. Whoop! I have 2 older step-children who live in other cities. The oldest, Cliff Pennington Jr., finished an 11 year career as a major league baseball player. He lives with his wife and 3 children in The Woodlands. He is helping coach the Texas A&M Baseball team. Nicole lives in Corpus Christi and also has 3 young children.
This is may still adjust for distance learning.
