Dellview student named winner in Cavaliers Art Contest

On Wednesday, April 25, Fiesta’s very own King Antonio made a special visit to Dellview Elementary School to recognize fourth-grade student Avery Castillo (pictured below with check). She was named the District 1 winner of the Texas Cavalier’s River Parade Art Contest.  Avery’s win awarded $3,000 for the arts program at Dellview. Special guest Roberto Trevino, District 1 Councilman, was also in attendance and presented a donation for an additional $1,000 to Dellview.

“Arts are fundamental to our community and as an architect by professional trade I know how beneficial art programs are to our schools,” said Trevino. “When the Cavaliers asked me to team up with them on this art contest, I wanted to help in the effort.”

Each year, children in elementary schools across San Antonio have an opportunity to submit drawings related to the parade theme.  An independent panel of judges selects a winner and runner ups from each city council district.  All the finalists’ schools receive cash awards for their art departments. King Antonio also recognized Giovanni Lancon (bottom right) with an Outstanding Student certificate.
