It was an evening of discovery for students heading toward a variety of career paths. The North East ISD Career and Technical Advisory Council hosted the 20th Annual Career Expo for middle and high school students on April 24. Representatives from a wide array of organizations filled the Blossom Athletic Center with signage, information and even interactive demonstrations. The purpose of the Career Expo is to inform students of training, educational programs and career opportunities in many different fields. Former students often say that the event served as the first step in choosing their career pathway.
“It’s very important for the kids to get here and understand what opportunities are available for them in their careers,” said Ben W. Peterson, Senior Director at the Career and Technical Educational (CTE) Department. “We have a lot of kids who know where their strengths may lie and this allows them to see how those strengths can align with career and industry. North East prides itself that this is the 20th year that we’ve been offering this. I don’t know of anybody in the region or state that offers something this comprehensive when it comes to local industry and how we can connect to our students.”
Surita Wyatt Scholarship winners, a scholarship rewarded to NEISD students for their success in CTE, were easy to catch at the event as they sported their honorary medals. The event acts as a fantastic resource for students excelling in CTE subjects like these students.
