Art from ISA graduate headed to U.S. Capitol

Artists from the International School of the Americas (ISA) swept the 2021 Congressional Art Competition. Recent ISA graduate Lizzie Edwards finished the contest in first place, which means her artwork will be on display at the U.S. Capitol for the next year. Art from Priscila Rivera, another recent ISA graduate, finished in second place and junior Natalie Garcia-Ramos finished in third.

“Exhibiting artwork at the U.S. Capitol is a momentous opportunity for any artist and I am grateful that Congressman Castro continues to host this competition each year," said Andrea Puentes, ISA art teacher. “I am proud to see so many ISA students recognized and I am especially excited for Lizzie. As a recent graduate, this achievement is a pretty fantastic way to finish her time in NEISD.”

The Congressional Art Competition fields some of the best work from young artists in the country. Students submit their art to their representative’s office, where a panel selects the winning entries that go on to the national contest. Art from all three ISA students was submitted on behalf of Congressman Joaquin Castro (D-TX20).
