KIN celebrates 30 years of after-school fun

KIN celebrates 30 years of after-school fun The Kids’ Involvement Network (KIN) is much more than a job for Brittany King – it’s a calling.

“I wear a lot of hats, I juggle a lot of things, but I try to practice what I preach,” said King. “Even when things get tough, it’s easy to do it when you love it and your heart is in the right place.”

The KIN program launched at North East ISD 30 years ago as a safe, convenient and affordable after-school care option for our families. Today, KIN is a staple at 60 elementary and middle school campuses.

King works hard behind the scenes and on-site to ensure KIN is much more than your typical after-school daycare. She recruits campus and community partners to supply creative, engaging activities – from watching chicks hatch from their eggs to learning sign language or creating slime.

When she isn’t lining up exciting new activities, King is training and recruiting KIN staff while developing and expanding curriculum for all of the middle school sites.

No matter what she’s doing, King brings the fun. When business as usual feels a lot like purpose, you know you’re in the right place.

“I really love what I do,” said King. “There are real personal connections and relationships between parents and our staff because they see us every day. They know they’re leaving their kids in the care of people who want to be there.”

King is one of hundreds of dedicated Adult and Community Education staff who work so hard to make KIN a safe, engaging option for NEISD families. On Wednesday, April 21, KIN turned 30 with celebrations across NEISD.

Thank you, Brittany, and the entire KIN team, for 30 years of fun!
