Bradley student wins big with a story about a strong Texas woman

MG BRadely

Bradley Middle School seventh-grader Michael Glodowski loves Texas.

His story is part of history in this state, and an essay he wrote about it has just won first place in a competition put on by the Daughters of the Republic.

“I know that I am bless with Texas history running through my veins,” he said. “Seven generations ago, my great-great-great-great-great grandfather James George and William Dearduff fought for the great land of Texas.”

Both men were part of The Immortal 32.

They were the last reinforcements to arrive at the Alamo.

His essay focused on his family and specifically the wife of James George, Elizabeth.

“This was a story of someone whose life was torn to shred by a brutal war and unimaginable loss but was always working for a better life for herself and her children,” wrote Glodowski.

His essay competed against hundreds of other student essays from all over San Antonio.

He will now advance to the state-level competition with a chance to win a $500 scholarship.
