Johnson band wins UIL 6A State Marching Contest

"Our goal this season was to inspire hope in our audiences and to be a beacon of positive energy for all who were around the organization," said Jarrett Lipman, Director of Bands at Johnson High School.

The Johnson band left it all on the field after an incredibly unconventional and emotional season. Their final performance of its 2020 show, "Know Who You Are," ended with the crowning moment Johnson students, parents and instructors have been working toward all season – a state championship.

"We are so proud of our students and thankful for the support from our community throughout this extremely challenging year," said Lipman. "We feel very fortunate for the opportunities we have all had to make music together and appreciative to our parents for placing trust in us with their students."

Johnson topped 19 other bands to claim its first Texas UIL 6A State Marching Championship at the Alamodome Tuesday, Dec. 15. Director of Bands, Jarrett Lipman, says he's proud of his students for overcoming so many obstacles this marching season.

"Our entire band family wishes to express our gratitude to our administration and school district for providing a pathway forward this season. It has meant the world to all of us."
