Tejeda receives new Chromebooks thanks to its PTA

Devices like Chromebooks are a hot commodity in the age of virtual learning. Members of Tejeda Middle School’s Parent Teacher Association (PTA) witnessed the transition to online learning up close in recent months. When PTA President Leigh Henry found out the Tejeda PTA had been awarded a $5,000 grant, using the money to purchase additional Chromebooks was an easy decision.

“Technology is so integrated into our lives and can be a great teaching tool,” said Henry. “But there are only so many Chromebooks available for our teachers to use in the classroom, so we wanted to add to that supply. Especially now, with everyone needing a device for virtual learning, we knew adding more devices could certainly benefit a larger group of students.”

To apply for the National PTA’s COVID-19 Relief Funding grant, Tejeda PTA members had to choose between using the funds for mental health, food insecurity, distance learning or internet and device access. Tejeda was one of 110 National PTA grant winners in the nation. Roan Forest and Encino Park elementary schools also made the cut. Henry believes this speaks volumes about their tightknit community.

“That is what I love about this community. We are always striving to offer the best opportunities for our students,” said Henry. “This purchase truly can benefit any student whether they choose virtual or in-person instruction. That’s the heart of the PTA, to improve the educational options for every student.”
