Meet TASSP’s Region 20 High School Principal of the Year

Two Bloomers

We just wish we had two Todd Bloomers!

If you have ever met Churchill High School Principal Todd Bloomer, it becomes very clear, very quickly how much he cares about his school, staff and students. This caring, along with his years of experience and leadership, has earned him a very distinguished honor.

Bloomer was recently named the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals (TASSP) Region 20 High School Principal of the Year. Region 20 is one of 20 education service regions in Texas covering 56 school districts in 19 counties. TASSP’s purpose is to build a network of educators who want to take responsibility for the quality of school leadership.

“I am honored to be recognized by the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals,” said Bloomer. “The honor could have gone to many other of my colleagues, as this region has some of the most innovative and successful leaders that I know. With that said, I am humbled and honored to be recognized.”

Those who work around him aren’t surprised that he was singled out.

“Mr. Bloomer is outstanding because he is an innovative leader and a cheerleader for all students,” said Kathy Johnson, Churchill’s STAN Counselor. “He greets students by name in the hallway and makes them feel important. Mr. Bloomer is a hands-on leader who is always visible around campus. He is an excellent communicator to parents and staff and is always available to help the Churchill community!”

Xavier Chavez is an Assistant Principal at Churchill and echoed Johnson’s thoughts on Bloomer’s dedication to his students and making them better.

“Todd Bloomer challenges the status quo, always factoring how this impacts how students learn. Moreover, he is a positive change agent and a relentless forward-thinker, every day - all day.”

This recognition means a lot to Bloomer, especially considering the climate right now surrounding COVID-19 and education. The need for collaboration and leadership is greater than ever, and Bloomer is proud to be a part of all those educators and leaders coming together during this time.

“We will need to rely on each other during this time to share what is working, share workarounds to hurdles, and share successes along the way,” said Bloomer. “I am blessed to work in a district that supports and empowers leaders to advocate and do what is best for our school communities.”
