Summer school students explore library’s virtual resources

North East ISD librarians offer so much more than book recommendations for our students. Distance learning has transformed the District’s library resources while offering a variety of ways to learn through interactive media. Steubing Ranch Elementary School librarian Marie Arce has been exploring innovative, curated lessons alongside our elementary-aged summer school students.

“Librarians work hard to review resources and find the perfect image, video or text to share with students and make learning come alive, even at a distance,” said Arce. “Sora, our online digital library, has allowed unlimited copies so students all have access during our online summer Lunch Bunch Book Club. Other resources like Discovery Education provide opportunities to take students on virtual field trips.”

Virtual field trips, interactive games and weekly book clubs are just the tip of the digital iceberg. Librarians can also help build Social Emotional Learning (SEL) strategies, such as breathing exercises and check-in activities through these online resources.

“Through our summer distance learning platform, I have witnessed the value of how our District librarians and available resources are teaching and modeling complex and in-depth lessons,” said Arce. “These curated resources allow me to reach all of our students.”
