Madison JROTC Cyber Patriot Team wins big in its first year

Madison JRTOC

This past school year, Madison High school created its first Cyber Patriot team.  It consisted of only a handful of members, but that team made a big splash in its first year of competition, taking home the Rising Star Award during the Mayor's Cyber Cup competition. The win came with a $6,000 prize from the Cyber Texas Foundation and the Armed Forces Electronics Communications Alamo Chapter.

"We are really proud of these students," said Cyber Texas General Manager, Vic Malloy. "What we want to do is create a strong talent pipeline so that today's students are tomorrow's leaders securing our cyberspace."

This team, and those like it across North East ISD, will be a part of our country's future cyber defense. One of the members of Madison's Rookie team just graduated and has already earned certification in cybersecurity, setting him on his path in college. Now, the hope is the money earned by this team will help solidify the foundation for future teams.

"We plan on using the money to support the program to get items that would take the team to the next level," said Madison's Senior Army Instructor LTC Scott Koast. "We are hoping for good things in the future."
