Urban Raider competition takes Reagan cadets to Kansas

Reagan High School JROTC cadets faced off against some of the top talent in the Midwest at the 12th annual Pioneer Challenge Raider Competition in Leavenworth, Kansas. Some of the most experienced and dedicated cadets make up the Viper Team Alpha. The group held their own in several different events, including a 5K terrain run, rope bridge construction, a tire pull challenge and various grueling obstacle courses.

Reagan finished in 1st place in the tire pull event, which tests the physical fitness and endurance level of each competing cadet. Participants are challenged to pull four tires of different sizes ranging from a compact car to a tractor tire 200 feet up an inclined surface. Reagan cadets compete in one out-of-state competition each year. Competing in Kansas was a new challenge for the team since they competed in Georgia for the last four years.

“I felt honored to represent Reagan and the Rattler Battalion at different schools throughout the country during my three years competing in Raider,” said cadet Stephen Hau. “Despite the 15 to 18-hour bus rides, the freezing morning temperatures and the dreaded cross country rescue course, we finally brought some hardware home!”
