Colonial Hills students learn with a teaching garden

The American Heart Association recognizes the Colonial Hills Elementary School garden as a teaching garden. The garden inspires a love of fruits and vegetables in the community.

"The garden is a wonderful hands-on learning experience, said Terri Pitts, Colonial Hills coach. “The students learn things such as composting with worms and with cafeteria scrapes, the plant and water cycle and so much more.”

Coach Pitts also says that because of the garden at Colonial Hills, many students will grow up eating fresh-from-the-garden produce and will prefer the taste of fruits and vegetables to other foods.
