The Military Child Education Coalition trains NEISD’s Middle Schools in the Junior Student 2 Student Program

Sponsors and student representatives of North East ISD’s middle schools gathered at the North East Sports Park on Wednesday, Sept. 18 and 19 to attend the Military Child Education Coalition’s Junior Student 2 Student training.  The program teaches 100 percent acceptance, while the core values of the program include leadership, academics, service, finding the way, and relationships.

“It is no surprise that the NEISD students came to training with a high level of understanding of the needs of new students in their schools,” said Julie Coffey, Community Liaison for the  Greater San Antonio Military Child Education Coalition. “We spent the day highlighting leadership, personal values, and acceptance.  The students practiced the skills of social interaction, non-judgmental relationship building, and organization of their team members.  JS2S members utilize these skills with new students on their campus, and assist them in acclimating quickly and avoiding isolation.”

The sponsors and student members will return to their schools and begin the JS2S program on their campus.  The members welcome new students to their campus, create a positive environment, support academic excellence, and ease transitions.
