Madison celebrates Summa Cum Laude students

Madison High School honored its top graduating scholars with a special reception and ceremony Wednesday, March 20. This year’s Summa Cum Laude ceremony honored 84 seniors who will graduate with a 100+ grade point average. Family, friends, school administrators and Madison staff filled the auditorium to hear each Summa graduate read a short tribute to the educator who has inspired them the most over the years.

JROTC cadet Andrew Arce took time to honor Master Sergeant Darrell Philson.

“As a retired Green Beret, Master Sergeant Philson is passionate about his job,” said Arce. “He cares for all of his students and constantly motivates us all to become better. I am extremely grateful for all the time he has invested in me and I cannot thank him enough.”

In addition to family and guests, special individuals in attendance were Board of Trustee President Shannon Grona, Secretary Sandy Hughey, Trustee Joseph Trevino, Trustee Sandy Winkley, Associate Superintendent of Business Services Dan Villarreal, and Executive Director of Campus Administration Dr. Justin Oxley.

Thank you to the Madison High School culinary arts and orchestra programs for providing food, refreshments, and music at the reception.
