NEISD student artists win at Regional VASE contest

Congratulations to North East ISD high school student artists whose artwork took top honors at the Visual Arts Scholastic Event (VASE) Region 20 event on Saturday, Feb. 23, at Stevens High School in San Antonio.

There were 1,948 entries in all, with 1,249 coming from NEISD. In total, 1,039 of those earned the top medals. Students from every District high school submitted their work for the contest. Out of the top-rated regional entries, 161 were selected to advance to the State VASE event to be held at San Marcos High School on April 27. 101 of the 161 submissions selected to advance were from North East ISD student artists! This is more than any other district in the region.

Jessica Gonzales from North East School of the Arts (NESA) and Andrea Puentes from the International School of the Americas (ISA) had the most pieces of art qualify to advance to the state contest. Gonzales has 16 advancing and Puentes has 12. Tina Barajas from MacArthur and Rena Urias from Reagan both had nine qualifiers. Congratulations to these students and their teachers for a job well done!
