Churchill student wins Battle of Flowers art contest

Jackie Suarez of Churchill High School is the artist behind the winning design for the 2019 Battle of the Flowers Band Festival Program Cover Design Contest. This year’s theme was “For the Love of Texas.” Suarez is the student of Elise Johnson, and is also a flute player in the Churchill Concert Band.

Out of nearly 300 entries, several other North East ISD students were winners in the top 30. All of these amazing artists will be honored on Sunday, April 7, at the San Antonio Garden Center.

NEISD student artists earned 14 of those awards, with 3 earning top awards.

  • Jackie Suarez of Churchill HS earned 1st Place (Elise Johnson, teacher)
  • Juliana Carillo of MacArthur HS earned Honorable Mention (Cory Schwartz, teacher)
  • Rebekah Hudson of Johnson HS earned Honorable Mention (Analisa Shinn, teacher)
