Colonial Hills recognized in HealthierUS Schools Challenge

Colonial Hills Elementary School is being recognized for its achievement in the HealthierUS Schools Challenge (HUSSC), a voluntary initiative established in 2004 to recognize schools participating in the National School Lunch Program that have created healthier school environments through promotion of nutrition and physical activity. Colonial Hills was recognized with the Bronze Level Certification by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).

Colonial Hills will receive a $500 monetary incentive award, an award plaque and banner to display and celebrate their achievement. Schools recognized through the HUSSC must improve the quality of foods served, provide students with nutrition education and provide students with physical education and opportunities for physical activity.

Colonial Hills is also home to a community garden that gives students hands-on practice harvesting a variety of fruit and vegetables. Congratulations to the staff at Colonial Hills, and thank you for your hard work.
