Reagan band to receive highest honor

The Reagan High School Wind Ensemble will perform at the 72nd annual Midwest Clinic International Band, Orchestra, and Music Conference in Chicago, Illinois on Friday, Dec. 21 at 12:00 pm. Reagan is the second San Antonio high school band selected to perform in the history of the conference. The first was in 1983.

The group was chosen for this prestigious event after submitting recordings of the ensemble performing in March of this year. Reagan was selected over a record number of applicants from around the nation.

“Performing at the Midwest Clinic is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that the Reagan Band students, staff and parents are incredibly excited about,” said Dan Morrison, Reagan High School Band Director. “We will be premiering four pieces of music commissioned for the Reagan Band in addition to performing alongside world-famous trumpet player and recording artist, Wayne Bergeron.”

More than 17,000 attendees interested in music education from all 50 states and more than 30 countries are expected to attend the Midwest Clinic International Band, Orchestra, and Music Conference Dec. 19-22. This is considered by many to be the highest honor a high school concert band can achieve. Reagan will perform alongside some of the best middle, high school, university and professional bands and orchestras in the world.

“The Reagan Band is honored to represent Reagan High School, the North East Independent School District and San Antonio on an international stage,” said Morrison.
