LEE JROTC organizes blood drive

Students and staff at LEE High School had the chance to save lives by donating blood on Tuesday, Oct. 30. LEE JROTC cadets helped organize the annual blood drive with assistance from the South Texas Blood and Tissue Center.

“Blood donated from high schools make up 20 percent of blood donations in south Texas,” said Roger Ruiz, South Texas Blood and Tissue Center Communication Specialist. “Today’s blood drive at LEE will help patients across south Texas. With one whole blood donation, up to three lives can benefit. Patients across south Texas depend on blood donations daily including cancer patients to premature babies and many more.”

Volunteers lined up to donate their blood in the JROTC air rifle facility from 8:00 am – 4:00 pm. Students also have an extra incentive to donate blood. If they donate at least six times they will join the “Honors Cord Program.” As a reward, they will receive a red honor cord to walk the stage with during graduation.
