LEE student ranked number one in USA archery

Peter Watson is making a name for himself as one of the top competitors in USA archery. The junior at North East ISD’s STEM Academy on the LEE High School campus is now ranked number one in USA Archery Cadet Barebow division.

Watson has held the number two spot ever since USA Archery began ranking the Barebow division in 2016. But this year, he edged out the other competitors, including last year’s number one, with a first-place finish at the U.S. National Field competition in Darington, Washington. Watson also placed in other qualifiers at Texas A&M University and in Raleigh, North Carolina ranking number eight and number four, respectively. He also won gold in the Outdoor Target Team event in North Carolina.

This will be Watson’s last year in the Cadet division, and his third year on the U.S. Archery Team. Watson belongs to Bexar County 4H Shooting Sports, Alamo Area JOAD and practices at Archer’s Haven in Canyon Lake and at Buck and Doe’s in North San Antonio.

He also participates in the LEE Band on percussion, FRC Robotics with the STEM Academy ROSBOTS, and is currently working toward his pilot’s license at Anderson Aviation in Bulverde.
