Olmos receives year-long school supply donation

For the fourth year in a row, Olmos Elementary School families received a ‘back to school bonus’ from the Summit Christian Center. With the support of the principal and family specialist, the community partner once again provided bags filled with school supplies for every student on campus.

Over 1,000 snack bags were passed out to students, and teachers also received their own ‘back to school’ gift baskets. Nicole Wanke, outreach director for Summit, says this donation is about breaking down barriers.

“We wanted to remove any barriers that these students may have in their lives,” said Wanke. “Barriers as in not having the right school supplies, not having food on the weekends and we just wanted to support the teachers and staff at this great school. For us, it is about removing the barriers so that they can fulfill their destiny.”

Many families in need count on the support of community partners like Summit Christian Center can provide. Pastor Rick Godwin says this heartfelt donation is just one of their many community efforts.

“It’s the most rewarding thing we do, and my hope is that we can do more in the future,” said Godwin. “To whom much is given, much is required. We love being able to help others less fortunate than ourselves.”
