NEISD starts new school year with series of convocations

Hundreds of North East ISD employees came together for the District’s annual back to school convocation on Monday Aug. 20 and Tuesday Aug. 21.

Dr. Brian G. Gottardy, Superintendent of Schools, kicked off the new school year with a whirlwind tour. This year’s ‘pep rally’ style convocation was inspired by the movie “The Greatest Showman.” The musical was inspired by the life of P.T. Barnum and his creation of the Barnum & Bailey Circus.

“It’s just fantastic to be back,” said Dr. Gottardy. “I believe this truly is the greatest school district on earth to work for.”

The convocation tour sent Dr. Gottardy to all seven comprehensive high schools, with each campus hosting faculty and staff from its feeder campuses. All seven events included a performance from NEISD Fine Arts students, dance teams and cheerleaders who performed a medley of songs and choreographed dances to music from “The Greatest Showman.” This fired up auditoriums packed with District teachers and staff preparing for the new year.

Dr. Gottardy’s presentation focused on the changes occurring in education as a whole and the teaching practices that need to be implemented in order to continue the District’s standard of excellence. Teachers, staff and students will head back to class for the first day of school on Monday Aug. 27.
