Teachers kick off the year at North East Resource Center

Teachers across North East ISD are getting ready for the new school year. That means the Resource Center at the Richard A. Middleton Education Center is seeing an influx of teachers working on projects for their classrooms.

Carmen Keane is getting ready to teach sixth-grade science at Ed White Middle School. On Friday, Aug. 17, she visited the Resource Center to prepare her new science boards.

“I’m working on lab rule stations and all of our safety signs,” said Keane. “I also laminated posters for our classroom. We need a lot of materials, and directions so this is an awesome center for preparing that.”

The Resource Center offers a variety of options for NEISD staff and parents. This includes colored and regular poster boards, cardstock, construction paper, lamination and more. There are three computerized electric die cutters available, which makes choosing shapes, colors and themes easier than ever.

This is also a great place for teachers to brainstorm with other educators. Sandra Carroll, Resource Center Clerk, says they have countless options at their fingertips.

“There’s everything they could need – pens, markers, colors, scissors – I mean everything. They can even tap into their email or their Google drive and print something out and make a poster or color copies.”

The Resource Center is even open late one night a week to allow teachers to come after school and get more work done. Every Thursday the center is open from 10 a.m. – 7 p.m.

Teachers who visit the center will also pay a discounted rate for their supplies, and the money goes back to NEISD.

The North East Resource Center is open Monday – Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. On Thursdays, it is open from 10 a.m. – 7 p.m., and on Friday from 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. It is located at 8961 Tesoro Drive.
