Congratulations to North East ISD bus driver, Mike Castaneda for placing first at the Texas School Bus Driver Safety Competition. Castaneda is a five-time Texas Champion and a two-time National Champion.
Castaneda represented NEISD and Texas in the 48th Annual School Bus Driver International Safety Competition on July 22 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where he placed 3rd overall in the nation.
The contestants began the competition with a written exam testing their understanding of the rules of the road. Then the drivers got behind the wheel and completed a road course. Drivers compete in one of three categories: conventional, small bus or transit.
Castaneda is a favorite in the competition having already earned five state championships and two national championships.
