Feeling FashionABLE!

Johnson High School students in Mandy LaCour’s Fashion Design II and III class earned several awards at the recent Spina Bifida's FashionABLE Fashion Show

FashionABLE is a program created by Spina Bifida of Texas in San Antonio. Fashion students from high schools from around the city are tasked with creating garments for kids with various disabilities.

The student designers were judged on quality of sewing, design skills and modification.

“The designers meet with the kids and parents to discuss their disabilities and needs for a custom designed garment,” explained LaCour. “The designers sketch options for their kid to pick from, then they go shopping for supplies and begin creating their design. The kids/models see their finished garment for the first time at the actual fashion show where both the designer and model strut their stuff on the stage.

The winning students included:

  • Lana Rosado: Best in Show
  • Michelle Aguirre: Best Modification
  • Morgan Weissmuller: Best Teen Casual Garment & Best Construction

The three winners also took home a $250 scholarship.

Congratulations to Mrs. LaCour and the following designers: Morgan Weissmuller, Lana Rosado, Trenidy Wilcox, Michelle Aguirre, Anahi Alba and Aaliyah Robles.
