Tex Hill twirler claims state and national titles #theNEISDway

Between school, band and twirling - Kinsey Simeon is always juggling something. But her favorite thing to juggle is her batons. The Tex Hill Middle School eighth-grader is one of the best baton twirlers in the state.

“My favorite part is all the tricks I get to do,” said Simeon. “I love doing big tricks and wowing the audience.”

To date, Kinsey has claimed two state titles at the Baton Twirling Association’s State Championship. She earned even more hardware at the AAU National Junior Olympics, including one gold and two silver.

Her hobby-turned-passion began when she was eight. By the time she was in sixth grade, Kinsey was wowing crowds as part of the Johnson High School marching band. Kinsey is already a skilled percussion player. When Jarrett Lipman, Director of Bands at Johnson, was looking for acrobats for the halftime show, Kinsey was the perfect candidate.

“I’m actually the youngest baton twirler to ever compete in the Bands of America Nationals with Johnson,” said Simeon. “It was very fun. I can’t wait to be a part of the Johnson band next year.”

Kinsey has twirled, danced and tumbled alongside some of the best performers in the nation. She was a lion cub during the “Circle of Life” performance as a sixth-grader. She can’t wait to play the marimba and wow even more crowds at Johnson next year.
