Walzem Elementary School principal Elizabeth Washington didn’t know what to expect when she was invited to pick up a special gift from Dollar General.
“They didn’t tell me I was getting a check. They just told me they wanted to give our school a gift, so I was shocked when I opened the gift to find a $10,000 check!”
Washington says this surprise $10,000 check will help fund Walzem’s classroom libraries, book clubs and family literacy night events. The donation stems from Dollar General’s company platform supporting literacy programs. The company is known to give gifts like these during anniversaries. The check to Walzem coincided with the first anniversary of the Dollar General Fresh Site on Kaepa Court.
