Tucked away under a canopy of shady oaks, near the intersection of Brookhollow and Heimer Road, is an authentic log cabin that is more than 200 years old. It has been part of the neighborhood since the 1990s. And this evening, it is open to you and your family to enjoy.

The Mill Springs cabin, the general store, the trading post, and wagons will welcome the entire North East ISD community from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. for “A Night In Old America.” A ribbon cutting will launch the opening of William York’s Americana exhibit. Mr. York contributed numerous murals to Old Mill Springs that depict historical periods of American history.

Much like an old-time country fair, you will have barbeque, games, face painting, a scavenger hunt, and balloons. The Mills Springs Cabin is located on the Bradley Middle School campus at 14819 Heimer Road.

Over the years, I have heard that the Mills Springs complex reminds people of Walnut Grove from “Little House on the Prairie” or an Old West movie set. Regardless of how you describe it, there is only one way to enjoy it – and that is in person.

Monday kicks off National Police Week. I am so grateful for the officers of the North East Police Department and for what they do to keep our children, our staff, our visitors, and this community safe. 

Each day and night, our District police officers are vigilant to potential threats to people and property. This is the time of year in which students may get over-excited over the anticipation of summer vacation. And as we have seen over the years, that excitement may take the shape of pranks.

Please inform your children that these days pranks are taken seriously and could mean a criminal record for those who make threats directed at people or schools. North East ISD utilizes a company to monitor social media for threatening posts. Once a post is flagged, the North East Police Department immediately investigates. Officers visit the students at school and at home, day or night, to determine the credibility of the threat. Additionally, we also investigate every tip received through the anonymous tipline (neisd.net/tipline).

Another way to reduce the stress brought on by threatening social media posts is not to share the posts or forward them. Notify North East PD instead. We have learned that while we determine that a social post was a prank, the threat continues to spread through social media.

Por favor, informe a sus hijos que en estos días las bromas se toman en serio y podrían significar un registro criminal para aquellos que hacen amenazas dirigidas a personas o escuelas. North East ISD utiliza una compañía para monitorear las redes sociales en busca de publicaciones amenazantes. Una vez que se marca o registra una publicación, el Departamento de Policía del Noreste investiga inmediatamente. Los oficiales visitan a los estudiantes en la escuela y en casa, de día o de noche, para determinar la credibilidad de la amenaza. Además, también investigamos todas las pistas recibidas a través de la línea anónima (neisd.net/tipline).

Otra forma de reducir el estrés provocado por las publicaciones amenazantes en las redes sociales es no compartir las publicaciones ni reenviarlas. Mejor, notifique a la policía del North East en su lugar. Hemos aprendido que, si bien determinamos que una publicación social era una broma, la amenaza continúa propagándose a través de las redes sociales.
