Over the past three years, Mike has been instrumental to the success and growth of the District’s Academy of Learning in Retirement, also known as ALIR. This learning academy provides enrichment classes for community members over the age of 50 and provides a sense of belonging and community to its participants. During COVID, he led the implementation of Zoom classes to keep the program going. He was appointed to fill a vacancy on the ALIR Council and then was elected to chair the ALIR Council. He currently serves on the NEISD District Educational Improvement Committee representing ALIR. ALIR was able to continue functioning and survive remotely for several consecutive semesters due to his efforts. Without Mike and his undying devotion to ALIR, the program was at risk of ending temporarily, or even possibly permanently.
