Admiral William “Bill” H. McRaven

Inducted October 2015

It was an emotional and inspirational day as Admiral William “Bill” H. McRaven (Ret.) was honored with the first Wall of Heroes plaque at North East ISD’s Wall of Heroes ceremony on Oct. 16, 2015. It was a wonderful start to what will be a long-standing tradition of celebrating the achievements of a person from the District who embodies heroic values.

“I’ve been recognized in my career for some work a lot of my guys have done, and I’ve been fortunate to be recognized by presidents, kings and prime ministers,” said Admiral McRaven. “Frankly, nothing means more to me than to be recognized by my friends from high school and by the North East Independent School District.”

Admiral McRaven’s military career began after graduating from Roosevelt High School in 1973. As a lifelong military member spanning 37 years of service, the four-star Admiral is credited by the President of the United States with planning and executing the raid that led to the death of Osama Bin Laden, America’s greatest enemy at the time. After graduating from the University of Texas in 1977 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, Admiral McRaven subsequently earned his Master’s Degree from the Naval Post Graduate School in 1991. Since his retirement, he has accepted the position of Chancellor of the University of Texas System.
