How do you determine whether my child is learning at grade level?

Grade Promotions

Promotion to the next grade level shall be based on an overall average of 70 or above based on course-level, grade-level TEKS standards for all subject areas, and a grade of 70 or above in language arts, mathematics, social studies and science.

Grade-level advancement for students in grades nine through 12 shall be earned by course credits. In order to graduate, students must pass their classes, as well as meet the state testing requirements. With the implementation of House Bill 5, students under the STAAR system must pass five End-of-Course assessments to graduate.

State Assesments

The State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) program is designed to measure a student’s knowledge and skills, with a greater emphasis on college and career readiness preparation. Every STAAR test is directly aligned to the TEK.
