Bradley Band finishing year in style

The Bradley Middle School music program has earned a great deal of success this school year.

On April 28, both Bradley Jazz Bands performed at the Fiesta Jazz Festival at St. Mary’s University. Bradley Jazz Band 1 directed by Jett Walker (also assistant director of concert band) competed in the 3C Division and placed first out of three bands. The Bradley Jazz Band 2 directed by Emily Gurwitz (also head concert band director) competed in the 2C Division and placed second out of five bands. Jett Walker was named Outstanding Middle School Director.

The band also had a great performance and success at the Bayou City Classic Competition in Houston this past April. Both Honor and Symphonic/Concert Bands received superior ratings and outstanding performance awards at the contest. Four band students received outstanding soloist awards:  Christian Haecker-Bassoon, Cade Saylors-Euphonium, Zoe Gurwitz-English Horn, and Kadence Howell-Piano. The Honor Band also received the "Best in Festival-Instrumental Award."

"Thank you to the school administration and all of the many clinicians, private teachers, and parents who have helped and supported us along the way,” said Head Band Director Emily Gurwitz

Parents were impressed with all the positive comments made by the Head Judges at the Bayou City Classic Festival. It has been a great year and the young musicians are looking to continue that success next school year.
