NETS students launch 'Java Joy'

NETS students are serving up a little joy with their coffee!

Our North East Transition Services (NETS) community-based program serves North East ISD students between the ages of 18 – 21 with disabilities who have completed high school and are seeking the support skills necessary for adult life.

NEISD partnered with BFI Treasures Gift Shop to give NETS students the chance to learn some valuable life and business skills. It results in ‘Java Joy’ – a coffee shop operating within BFI Treasures Gift Shop.

A NETS students serves a customerNETS students completed a year of entrepreneurship training alongside business owner, Jennifer Rodriguez. Students created a business plan, designed a logo, and built the coffee shop from the ground up. They also handled advertising, inventory and item purchases. This opportunity also allowed our NETS students to earn their Food Handler Certification.

Java Joy now operates Tuesday through Friday from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m.,and they have even started to learn how to make paninis.

The next time you need a cup of coffee, stop by Java Joy inside BFI Treasures Gift Shop, located at Suite #112 at 5121 Crestway Drive.
