Kindergarten

  • Kindergarten is a standards-based program where academic and social-emotional skills and concepts are taught in an active, enriching environment of high expectations. Children learn to read, write, problem solve and understand academic concepts that are the foundation to a quality education.

The North East ISD Kindergarten program is based on the Texas Essential Knowledge & Skills (TEKS) or Conocimientos y destrezas esenciales de Texas.

    Enrollment

Texas requires that a child be 5 years-old on or before September 1 to attend Kindergarten.

If your child meets this requirement, please use visit NEISD's Registration page to begin enrolling today!

A student who is five years of age on or before September 1 of the current school year and has completed public school kindergarten in another state or is enrolled in a public school first grade class in another state may continue in the first grade if he/she moves into North East ISD during the school year. An underage transfer student previously attending a public school in another state who is the child of a custodial parent who is an active member of the U.S. Military that has been stationed on active duty to a local military facility may continue in kindergarten, provided the previous state is a member of the Military Interstate Compact.

If you have any questions about the minimum age requirements for Kindergarten, please contact Early Childhood Education at (210) 407-0345.

Please note: once a child is enrolled in public school, state compulsory attendance laws will apply. Under the law, if a student is absent from school on 10 or more days or parts of days within a six-month period in the same school year or on three or more days or parts of days within a four-week period, then the student's parent is subject to prosecution under Section 25.093.

    Curriculum

Kindergarten assesses students each nine weeks using a skills-based checklist. The skills on the NEISD Kindergarten Checklist reflect the Texas Essential Knowledge & Skills (TEKS) for each subject.

At the end of each nine week grading cycle, the Kindergarten Checklist will document your child's progress. A sample checklist is available by clicking on the button below.
