AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination.  AVID is an elective available to middle and high school students.  The mission of AVID is to close the opportunity gap for all students by preparing them for college and career readiness and success in a global society.  Driscoll AVID students put this into practice by learning note-taking skills, organization, time management, completing college and career research, engaging in teamwork and collaborative group study, and setting goals.

The AVID elective is one that requires students to enroll in at least one rigorous, honors course.  For 6th and 7th grade, they can choose between Math and ELAR.  8th grade has a choice of Math, ELAR, Science, or Social Studies.  The skills we put into action in this class will help students with the transition to middle school, and on to high school, as well as collaborative group study that will allow students to work together on assignments they struggle with.

AVID is an application elective.  Students who sign up are committed to completing the coursework, participating in the required class activities, and putting into practice what they are learning in class in their other classes.  AVID students will learn writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization, and reading skills.
