Mr. Burnette

Thomas Burnette is the Director of Bands at Driscoll Middle School. He is originally from San Antonio, Texas where he attended Winston Churchill High School. While at Churchill, he was an All-State musician in 2012 and 2013.

 After high school, Mr. Burnette attended the University of North Texas where he graduated with a Bachelor's in Music Education. While at UNT, he participated in the UNT Green Brigade marching band as well as the UNT University Band, Concert Band, and many small ensembles. He also participated in the UNT Concert Choir and Grand Chorus. Mr. Burnette studied clarinet under the direction of Daryl Coad, and Wind Conducting under Dennis Fischer and Nicholas Williams.

Mr. Burnette previously taught for three years as the Assistant Band Director at Armando Chapa Middle School in Kyle, Texas and most recently for two years as the Associate Band Director at John B. Connally High School in Austin, Texas. While at Chapa, he taught the Non-Varsity Band and all beginning Woodwind classes as well as leading an after school jazz club. While at Connally, he co-taught the Wind Ensemble, Marching Band, and was the director of the Jazz Band. Mr. Burnette’s ensembles have consistently earned sweepstakes at both the high school and middle school levels.

Outside the band hall, Mr. Burnette enjoys spending time outdoors hiking and camping with his wife, Savannah, and their 7-year-old pup, Duncan, who is named after his favorite basketball player, Tim Duncan. He is an avid sports fan, his favorite teams are the San Antonio Spurs and the Cleveland Browns.

Mr. Burnette is very excited to be a part of the Driscoll Band family and looks forward to getting to know everyone involved in the program! Mr. Burnette will be teaching the beginning woodwind and percussion classes as well as directing the Jazz Band and Honors Band.
