Nimitz and STEM embrace Chinese culture

Nimitz Middle School and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Academy students looked forward to a visit from Chinese language students from Lee High School and ISA (International School of the Americas).

On Jan. 12, the students gave an interactive lesson on Chinese greetings and numbers 1-10 to the eighth graders. The middle schoolers excelled at learning many Chinese activities such as, Chinese yoyo, badminton, chopsticks usage, and coloring the numbers 1-10.The students also got a Chinese name as part of the lesson.

This dynamic lesson is a great way to promote Chinese language class to upcoming ninth grade students heading to Lee High School, or one of its magnet programs. Chinese is the most widely spoken language in the world with approximately 1,197,000,000 people speaking the language, of which 873,000 million speak Mandarin. Learning this language and its culture will only drive students to further success.
