NEISD students test their technology skills at national contest

Eight North East ISD high school students put their skills to the test against some of the nation’s best at the National Technology Student Association (TSA) virtual conference. Seven Engineering & Technologies Academy (ETA) students and one Design and Technology Academy (DATA) student competed at the national contest after advancing through regional and state competitions.

Max Lozano, Isabella Gonzalez, Laritza Fernandez, Alex Bryant, Tristan Lee, Roselyn Schnabe, Seyna Kilic and Julian Pena competed in May and June. Teachers Grizelda Gentry (ETA) and Domingo Martinez (ETA) helped the students prepare.

ETA and DATA students competed in Photographic Technology, Forensic Science and Cybersecurity. Tristan Lee, Alex Bryant, Seyma Kilic, Julian Pena and Roselyn Schnabel were awarded top 10 in the nation for Cybersecurity. They competed against schools in Washington State, Colorado, West Virginia, California and North Carolina. Congratulations to all our students for all their hard work during competition season!

For the 2020-2021 school year, TSA adapted more than 60 in-person STEM competitive events to accommodate a virtual environment in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Isabella Gonzalez and Seyma Kilic joined the TSA National Honor Society.

TSA also recognized the Roosevelt High School Relay for Life team for its outstanding fundraising efforts. The group raised $2,000 and was awarded the Purple Spirit Service Award and Highest Fundraising Chapter Award at the conference.

Team leaders are Danniela Zamora, Cambry Stratton, Eduardo Gonzales (not pictured) and Soupharuady Vongsouvanh, former team lead and mentor.
