Wood students shine during "Do the Write Thing" contest

Each year, North East ISD middle school students participate in the "Do the Write Thing" essay contest. More than 100 virtual and in-person learners at Wood Middle School took the opportunity to write about the root causes of youth violence and how they can initiate change in their community. Hannah Bates and Amir Gharbi represented Wood at the citywide "Do the Write Thing" contest. Hannah was named a campus finalist and Amir a national finalist and 3rd place overall winner in the city.

English teacher and instructional coach, Melissa Valdez, worked tirelessly to make sure every student had the chance to participate, which resulted in more essay submissions at Wood than almost any other year.

Congratulations to Hannah and Amir!
