They recently submitted to two virtual contests and brought home some major accolades. They were designated as the Outstanding Ensemble at both contests, and individual students received the awards below:

Outstanding Instrumentalist (best person heard of ALL bands on that instrument)

 Weldon Reagor, Bass Trombone

 Aidan Morgan, Saxophone

 Hill Country Jazz Festival

Outstanding Jazz Ensemble Award – MacArthur HS Jazz Band (for the SECOND year in a row!)

Outstanding Soloist Awards

 Aidan Morgan, Tenor Sax

 Sergio Tapia, Tenor/Bari Sax

 James Stephenson, Trumpet

 Weldon Reagor, Bass Trombone

 Anthony Romero, Drumset

“These students put together music solely outside of the curricular school day, in addition to their concert band rehearsals and personal practice,” explained MacArthur’s assistant band director Alexia Beasley. “For these virtual competitions, the ensemble came together for two audio and video recording sessions. It is an incredible honor to be named the Outstanding Ensemble, especially for the second year in a row.”

The MacArthur Jazz Band has two performances left this school year.

On May 20 at 6:30 p.m., they will have an outdoor concert at MacArthur High School featuring the Driscoll Middle School Jazz Band.

On May 22 from 6-8 p.m., they will hold another outdoor concert at Hollywood Park where they will be performing a set along with the Bradley Middle School and Churchill High School Jazz Bands.
