The cafeteria and custodial staff at Roosevelt High School feel the love every Thanksgiving. There's even more gratitude packed into this year's campus food drive. H-E-B partnered with Roosevelt's Student Council and JROTC program to gift 43 Thanksgiving food bags to every cafeteria worker and custodian on campus.

This annual Roosevelt tradition has been going strong for more than 30 years.

"These bags are going to 17 custodians and 26 cafeteria employees," said Javier Cavazos, Student Council Sponsor. "It feels good giving back. You can just see the expression on their face change knowing they'll have some extra food on their tables."

Roosevelt JROTC members proudly helped deliver gift bags across campus Friday, Nov. 20. Cafeteria staff and custodians have always played a vital role, but the COVID-19 pandemic has shown everyone how important they are to each campus community.

Cadet Leeroy Davila says it feels good to give back to the people who keep Roosevelt's students fed and its campus clean.

"I believe this is a big step toward our commitment to our mission statement - to collaborate with school organizations to help our community," said Davila. "This will show other organizations of our excellence and willingness to help create a better tomorrow."
