#NEISDcares | District launches School Nurse Hotline

School nurses are often the first line of defense for our students when it comes to their health needs. They are also a vital resource for parents with questions about health-related issues. North East ISD is committed to providing our students, parents, and staff with support and guidance during the coronavirus pandemic.

A new School Nurse Hotline will connect parents with an NEISD nurse who can help answer questions and offer guidance on weekdays from 8 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. All parents have to do is dial 210-407-0593 to speak with a school nurse.

“NEISD school nurses are often the first medical person a parent will come to when they have questions or concerns about their child,” said D’Lynn Haycraft, NEISD Health Services Nurse Coordinator. “It is important we continue to offer this resource to parents and students during the time of campus closures. It is more important than ever our families know we are here for them.”

NEISD nurses are available to answer questions about general health and wellness concerns, immunizations, medications, minor injuries and COVID-19. The pandemic has caused many health care providers to alter their availability to see patients. Haycraft says it’s more important than ever for school nurses to support our NEISD parents, students and staff.

“During this time, many doctor offices and clinics are not seeing patients for minor concerns,” said Haycraft. “Some families may be hesitant to seek medical care, as they are trying to minimize the exposure of themselves and their children. We want to make sure we continue to provide our support, knowledge and expertise to our families even when we are apart.”
