Honor Flight Celebration at Tex Hill

Veterans Day celebrations started early at Tex Hill Middle School. On Friday, Nov. 8, the campus hosted its Annual Honor Flight Veteran Dinner. In its fifth year, the tradition and anticipated event on campus continues to grow.

“It is such an honor to be able to host our annual “Honor Flight” dinner which allows students to present their fundraising check for the “Seat for a Soldier” initiative to the Veterans of the San Antonio Honor Flight Chapter,” said Dr. Charles Reininger, principal of Tex Hill. “This unique event provides students and veterans the opportunity to genuinely interact and share stories and gratitude with and to one another.”

This year, "Tex" Hill students and staff welcomed approximately 61 veterans and their families to the Tex Hill cafeteria and hosted an unforgettable evening. The celebration highlights included the Tex Hill Choir singing America the Beautiful; a slideshow presentation by Honor Flight Representative, Court Van Sickler and Randy Brown; catered dinner compliments of Olive Garden and Raising Cane’s; and a certificate presentation.

“The kids of Tex Hill really knocked it out of the park with their servant spirits and with the great effort,” said John Pratt, Vietnam Veteran. “I regain my confidence with the knowledge that our young people are interested in the history of this country and the veterans that served her to see her free. They are making a major contribution to the lives of many who will follow.”

Honor Flight San Antonio is a non-profit, volunteer-run organization whose mission is to take every willing and able hero to see his or her memorials in Washington, D.C.  Each year, the Tex Hill student council raises money to send veterans on this two-day trip. The campus honors these veterans by serving them dinner and putting together a student program in their honor.

The date for the flight is not yet set, but it will occur in sometime in May.
