MacArthur honors its Summa graduates

MacArthur High School hosted a Summa Cum Laude reception and ceremony on March 7 to celebrate the incredibly impressive achievement of 79 of its students.

These high school seniors will graduate in June with a 100+ grade point average, not only successfully completing their courses, but excelling in them.

A reception provided music by the MacArthur orchestra and refreshments as guests mingled and took photos.

The ceremony that followed allowed each student to come to the stage and honor a teacher who made a significant impact on their education – students like Mario Salgado and his teacher Reagan Beres.

“I am recognizing Ms. Beres, my AVID teacher,” said Mario to the audience seated in the auditorium. “She is generous, noble and the most kind person I know. I have learned from her that generosity and kindness go a long way in every situation. Ms. Beres has always been there as a teacher and a friend. I cannot thank her enough for teaching me the ways of being a kind-hearted and considerate person. I am proud to announce that thanks to my family’s love, my hard work, and the admirable Ms. Beres, I will be the first in my family to attend college this fall. Thank you, Ms. Beres.”

In addition to family and guests, special individuals in attendance were Assistant Superintendent of Instruction and Campus Administration Dr. Sean Maika; Board Vice President Tony Jaso; board members Joseph Trevino, Sandy Winkley and Terri Williams; Associate Superintendent of Operations Ron Clary and Executive Director of Campus Administration Dr. Justin Oxley.
