Johnson students rack up journalism awards

Students from Johnson High School are celebrating after a successful trip to the National High School Journalism Convention in Chicago. The annual fall convention is co-sponsored by the Journalism Education Association (JEA) and the National Scholastic Press Association (NSPA).

Johnson media students traveled to Chicago Nov. 1-4, to attend workshops and compete in several different categories, including broadcast production, photography and writing. Jag Student Media runs an online news site, a campus news broadcast and designs and distributes its yearbook. This year all three outlets were recognized in the top 10 in the Best of Show contest. The Citadel finished in 9th place in the yearbook category, Jag TV finished in 8th place in the broadcast division and My Jag News finished in 5th place in the website category.

Johnson also had 12 students earn awards in broadcast production, photography and writing categories. Congratulations to Danielle Bellow, Adelin Blackmon, Liberty Vela, Colbi Edmonds, Jackson Nemeth, Gabe De Leon, Josh Keating, Aldara Velasquez, Katie Peters, Caleb Coleman, Meredith Kershaw and Peyton Jervey.
