MacArthur JROTC cadets compete at National Raider Competition

Cadets in the MacArthur High School JROTC program traveled to Georgia to compete in the annual U.S. Army Cadet Command JROTC National Raider Championships. On Saturday, Nov. 3, more than 1,100 competitors from 90 teams across the country faced off in several challenges.

The Brahmas competed in five categories: rope bridge, gauntlet, physical team test, cross country rescue and a team 5K race. Cadets joined forces in the male varsity and mixed (male and female) categories with 12 members on each team. The male varsity team finished 17th overall, and the mixed team finished in 21st place.

On Sunday, Nov. 4, cadets Hunter Ballard and Daniela Munoz competed in the Ultimate Raider Competition. This contest consists of a 1.75 mile run on pavement, and a one mile run in a wooded area that ends with a low crawl course and an eight-foot wall to scale all while wearing a 25 pound backpack. Munoz finished the race with a time of 18 minutes at 52 seconds and Hunter completed the course in 13 minutes and 31 seconds.
