Johnson and Reagan bands are marching their way to the UIL State Contest

After months of rehearsal and long hours on the practice field, all seven North East ISD high school marching bands compteted in the UIL Area Marching Contest on Saturday, Oct. 27. Marching bands from Madison, MacArthur, Reagan, Johnson, Churchill, LEE and Roosevelt performed in front of judges and a packed house at Heroes Stadium.

"The UIL Area Marching Contest is the equivalent of playoffs for high school marching band," said Philip Flynn, band director at Madison. "Months of planning, four weeks of summer practices, nine weeks of class time, and countless hours of rehearsals have built up to these final weeks of the marching season. Tens of thousands of dollars go into the music arrangements, costumes, flags, choreography, and props for each band, and the students are always so excited to show off the final product."

Each band had the chance to perform and be evaluated throughout the day. The top 10 bands advanced to the final round, which started at 7:30 pm. Churchill, Johnson and Reagan advanced to the Finals and after stellar performances the judges announced Johnson and Reagan would be moving on to the UIL State Marching Band Contest on Nov. 5-7 at the Alamodome.
