Johnson student raises money for Alzheimer’s Association

A Johnson High School sophomore is doing her part to spread awareness and raise money for the Alzheimer’s Association. Juliana Alfonso-DeSouza spent much of the last year organizing a sand volleyball tournament in honor of her beloved grandfather.

While planning the tournament, Alfonso-DeSouza sold raffle tickets and reached out to area businesses for donations. A successful tournament and raffle were held on June 30. She raised $1,704 and is the youngest ‘Longest Day’ event coordinator in the South Texas Chapter.

Alfonso-DeSouza is now planning her second event to raise money and bring awareness to this disease in 2019.
