Aspiring Eagle Scout completes beautification project at Wilshire

Churchill High School senior Jonathon Randazzo will officially become an Eagle Scout in a few short months. That process includes a service project that each scout must select and complete in order to obtain the required volunteer hours.

He decided to give back to another NEISD campus and spent two days in August revamping the entrance area at Wilshire Elementary School. He worked with two other troop members to update existing flower beds near the front office. Randazzo also handpicked the new shrubs and trees to plant.

The aspiring Eagle Scout says the campus beautification project was a collaboration with Wilshire.

“Planning the project took about two months,” said Randazzo. “I spoke with the principal first to see what they wanted, and then we had to decide where everything would go.”

Randazzo also helped install a “Little Free Library” outside the main entrance for students to enjoy. The library had already been donated to Wilshire by St. David’s Episcopal Church.

The free library is a book cabinet mounted outdoors that allows anyone to come up and borrow a book or leave a book for free.

“I spoke with the principal about putting one in for them, and they told me that a church had already donated one. So I got it from the church a week or two before we did the project. I just had to cement it in the ground and it was good to go.”

Randazzo is expected to receive his Eagle Scout rank this November.
